Case Study: PSE&G achieves improved meter-read efficiency, route consolidation, and major cost savings with RouteSmart Technologies

A RouteSmart Technologies Case Study

Preview of the PSE&G Case Study

How Pse&G Applied Routesmart To Optimize Operational

PSE&G, New Jersey’s largest utility, faced inefficient, manually sketched meter-reading routes across 2,600 square miles and roughly 3.9 million meters and set goals to increase daily meters read, consolidate routes, and cut costs. To tackle this, PSE&G implemented RouteSmart (from RouteSmart Technologies) to optimize both manual and AMR meter-reading operations.

RouteSmart Technologies deployed a phased solution—statewide regrouping followed by cycle shifting—backed by stakeholder engagement and centralized route management. Using RouteSmart, PSE&G optimized or rerouted over 3 million meters, reduced route books from 330 to 295, achieved an estimated 11:1 cost‑benefit ratio, maintained manual read rates consistently above target, and optimized monthly reads of 3.9 million meters.
