Intercity Transit, a public transit agency in Washington state, faced an urgent mandate to overhaul its fixed-route bus service in just 10 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge was to prioritize essential trips, enforce social distancing on vehicles, and address driver shortages, all while tracking trip purposes for compliance. RouteMatch provided the software platform that allowed Intercity Transit to rapidly launch a public call-and-ride reservation service. This solution enabled controlled passenger capacity, essential trip prioritization, and efficient scheduling. The results were significant, with the service averaging over 700 weekday rides using a fleet of paratransit vehicles and vans. Booking times were halved, and the system successfully directed the majority of trips to essential destinations like medical centers, grocery stores, and employment hubs, meeting the state's critical mandate.
