Optimizing Bed Flow With Real-time Transportation Data

Geisinger Health System, a regional healthcare provider serving more than 2.6 million residents across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, needed better visibility into transportation delays that were affecting bed turnover, discharge flow, and planned transfers to post-acute care. Before partnering with Roundtrip, these delays were largely anecdotal, making it difficult for Geisinger to plan capacity and improve ride availability during peak discharge times.

Using Roundtrip’s transportation platform for NEMT coordination and ride authorizations, Geisinger gained real-time transportation data and detailed reporting across more than 40 data points per ride. The result was a 19.8% increase in wheelchair and ambulance rides, over 5,000 complex rides completed in under six months, and about an hour saved per trip on authorization time-task, helping Roundtrip improve efficiency and support better bed flow.
