Maximizing the Patient Experience for Those in Need of Transportation Assistance With the Breathing Room Foundation

Breathing Room Foundation, a Greater Philadelphia nonprofit supporting people affected by cancer, needed a better way to address one of its biggest barriers to care: transportation. Before partnering with Roundtrip, the organization relied on black car service plus taxi, bus, and train vouchers, but the approach was costly, inflexible, and sometimes reduced the value of patients’ financial awards when rides had to be canceled or rescheduled.

Roundtrip provided a flexible, cost-effective transportation solution that Breathing Room could use for patients traveling to and from cancer treatment centers. Since launching in 2018, Roundtrip has helped the foundation serve hundreds of patients across 10 cancer centers, and ride volume continued to climb sharply, including a 26% month-over-month increase from October to November 2019 and a 215% increase from November to December. The Breaking Barriers pilot also enabled 250 additional rides at one hospital alone, helping Breathing Room expand access to care.
