Durham College identifies $16.8 million in accessibility improvements with Roth IAMS

Durham College faced the challenge of identifying and addressing accessibility barriers across its campuses to meet its commitment to equal access and the Government of Ontario’s vision for a Barrier-free Ontario by 2025. The college engaged vendor Roth IAMS to conduct a comprehensive built environment accessibility audit of its facilities.

Roth IAMS conducted a thorough assessment using its proprietary Smart Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet, expanding the scope beyond legal requirements to include circulation and path of travel considerations. The solution provided the college with a clear path forward, identifying key areas for improvement with projected costs of $15.1 million for the Oshawa Campus and $1.7 million for the Whitby Campus. The work by Roth IAMS paves the way for a more inclusive campus environment and fosters a culture of equal opportunity.
