Case Study: Port of Rotterdam achieves 90% document accuracy with Rossum

A Rossum Case Study

Preview of the Port of Rotterdam Case Study

How the Port of Rotterdam Authority achieved 90% accuracy after only 10 documents

The Port of Rotterdam Authority, Europe’s largest maritime cargo port, needed to modernize its accounts payable operations. With around 20,000 invoices a year and many supplier-specific layouts, its legacy OCR system required technical template setup and heavy manual work, slowing supplier onboarding and making non-purchase order invoice processing especially difficult. The port turned to Rossum, an intelligent document processing platform, to improve automation, speed, and accuracy.

Rossum implemented an AI-based invoice processing solution integrated with SAP ECC and the Port of Rotterdam’s Source to Pay system, using master-data validation and a configurable human-in-the-loop workflow. Rossum also supported a new tonnage certificate use case with its next-generation AI, Rossum Aurora, which reached over 90% accuracy after just 10 documents. The project cut invoice processing effort by 70.7%, saving 810 AP days per year and building trust for broader automation across the organization.
