Thermo Fisher Scientific cuts navigation-related support tickets with Rossul

Rossul partnered with Thermo Fisher Scientific to address the challenge of modernizing the embedded software for a laboratory-grade spectrophotometer. The instrument's previous analogue interface, which relied on physical buttons, created a significant barrier to efficiency and required cumbersome, multi-step inputs for complex lab procedures. The challenge was to transition to a modern touchscreen interface that was both powerful and intuitive for a user base accustomed to physical controls, all while working within the constraints of the device's small screen and fixed hardware resources.

The solution implemented by Rossul was a complete, user-centered redesign of the on-device software. This included creating purpose-built iconography, streamlining navigation to mirror real-world lab workflows, maximizing data visibility on the small display, and introducing contextual UI states to guide users and prevent errors. As a result, technicians completed procedures faster with less supervision, support tickets related to navigation dropped significantly, and the risk of human error was reduced, thereby improving data integrity and overall productivity in the lab.
