A Rosetta Stone Case Study
Walgreens Boots Alliance, the world’s first global pharmacy-led health and wellbeing enterprise formed by the merger of Walgreens and Alliance Boots, faced the challenge of building practical language skills across a 370,000-strong, multicultural workforce in 25+ countries. Business-critical English proficiency and competence in other key languages were needed for customer and supplier interactions and for better cross‑border teamwork, but rolling out consistent training across geographies and generations — including supporting less digitally confident employees — was complex.
The Assessment and Development Centre partnered with Rosetta Stone on a phased e-learning rollout aimed at English fluency for non-native speakers and skills in at least one other major language, supplemented by informal workplace practice sessions. The digital, mobile-accessible programme — featuring virtual live tutorials, conversation practice and gamified content — allowed the company to reach many employees quickly, received very positive learner feedback, and helped strengthen international communication, cultural understanding and collaboration across the organisation.
