Gilbane Inc., a family‑owned construction and real estate firm based in Providence, RI, needed to improve on‑site communication and safety with trade contractors—many of whom are native Spanish speakers. The company targeted safety personnel, superintendents and field staff for a flexible language program that would allow anytime, anywhere study and help crews communicate safety procedures and track incidents.

In May 2012 Gilbane rolled out Rosetta Stone Foundations with 12‑month licenses, one hour/week of on‑the‑job study, live tutoring, games and administrator tools, plus newsletters and SAFETYNET tracking to reinforce safety language use. Results included managers reporting a 72% expected increase in Spanish engagement, learner gains of over 55% in pronunciation, 50% in vocabulary and 30% in speaking, and estimated savings of more than $450 per learner for an annual ROI of 55.5%.
