A RootStock Case Study
Unionwear, a Newark, NJ–based maker of custom ball caps, tote bags and apparel with 120 union workers, chose to keep production in the U.S. despite a decades-long industry shift offshore, shrinking household apparel spending, and razor-thin margins. Operating in a high-cost location meant the company had to find new ways to compete by eliminating waste and improving value for the customer.
Unionwear embraced lean manufacturing (Kaizen) and implemented Rootstock Manufacturing ERP on the Salesforce platform to tighten inventory control for many fabric types and to measure efficiency only on finished goods. By cutting non-value activities, refining cycle times and using Rootstock’s reporting and dashboards to track KPIs, the company has tripled productivity over nine years and continues to drive ongoing improvements.
