Magnomatics, an innovator in magnetic gear technology for hybrid, renewable, aerospace, marine, and rail applications, needed to optimize its MAGSPLIT® magnetic power-split dedicated hybrid transmission for the Ford C-MAX Hybrid. The challenge was to rapidly explore many design options using realistic drive-cycle simulation and multi-fidelity models to ensure the final concept would deliver real-world fuel efficiency, reliability, and performance.

Romax Technology supported Magnomatics with its rapid concept design exploration and whole-system simulation tools, enabling fast analysis across multiple drive cycles. Romax Technology and Magnomatics evaluated 2,000 design variants in one week, selected the least drive-cycle-sensitive design, and estimated a 3.3% fuel-consumption reduction versus the current planetary system in the Ford C-MAX Hybrid, while also helping reduce development time and cost.
