Case Study: Technische Universität Darmstadt achieves optimised two-drive transmission design with Romax Technology

A Romax Technology Case Study

Preview of the Technische Universität Darmstadt Case Study

Romax helps leading research university, Technische Universität Darmstadt, design a brand new optimised two-drive transmission

Technische Universität Darmstadt’s Institute for Mechatronic Systems in Mechanical Engineering (IMS) needed to optimize a novel powertrain concept for extended-range electric vehicles, balancing efficiency, performance, and simplicity in a new transmission design. Romax Technology supported the university with RomaxDESIGNER and CAD Fusion to model and analyze the concept at the system level, including challenging efficiency calculations and transmission efficiency maps.

Using Romax Technology’s software, the team evaluated multiple transmission layouts, gear ratios, and powertrain parameters to refine a two-drive transmission with parallel and series hybrid capability. The result was a promising new design with high efficiency in both electric and hybrid driving, strong driving performance, and reduced complexity, with plans in place to build prototypes.
