CAF MiiRA, a leading designer, manufacturer, and maintainer of railway wheelsets and components, needed to improve gearbox reliability and NVH performance while avoiding gear edge loading and reducing the risk of late-stage design issues. To meet short delivery timelines and achieve a right-first-time approach, CAF MiiRA worked with Romax Technology consultancy services to better understand how full system behaviour and test data relate to simulation.

Romax Technology used whole-system gearbox simulation to optimise gear micro geometry, calculate system deflections and misalignments, and correlate simulation with test-rig results. The work helped CAF MiiRA reduce transmission error and edge loading, improve reliability and noise performance, de-risk new designs, and save time and cost by minimising test iterations and improving confidence in production-ready designs.
