Optimising the design and simulation process for aerospace transmissions with HEATSSIM

HEATSSIM (Holistic Engineering Approach to Thermal and Structural Simulation) partnered with Romax Technology to optimize the design and simulation process for aerospace transmissions. Their challenge was to improve performance and engineering efficiency for a highly complex subsystem that must account for load deflection, heat, noise, vibration, oil flow, and strict aerospace safety requirements. Romax Technology used its simulation platform, including RomaxDESIGNER, as part of the project.

Romax Technology implemented a multi-fidelity design process that starts with fast, simple analysis methods and then moves to more detailed simulations as the design is refined. The solution linked RomaxDESIGNER with ANSYS Fluent in a workflow that keeps all analyses aligned to a single transmission definition, helping engineers make better decisions earlier and reduce reliance on expert-only simulation. The project delivered a more efficient, integrated simulation approach with strong potential to improve aerospace transmission design, and the resulting technology also has cross-over value for automotive thermal management and electric drive systems.
