Alpha Natural Resources (ANR), a leading coal producer in the energy sector, needed a better Oracle database strategy to support its 3-year growth plan. Its outsourced Oracle EBS infrastructure was costly, slow to respond to requests, and lacked support, so ANR turned to Rolta International for guidance on database design, migration planning, and an in-house Oracle infrastructure roadmap.

Rolta International evaluated ANR’s data needs and growth expectations, compared several architecture options, and recommended Oracle Exadata. After implementing Exadata and Rolta’s managed services support, ANR achieved major performance gains, improved stability, and met four nines availability (99.99% excluding planned outages); key EBS jobs improved by 2x to 12x, with gains such as 258.82% for Payroll Process and 733.33% for Financial Statement Generator.
