Leveraging Operational Intelligence to Improve Plant Reliability

Global Refinery, a major refinery operator in the USA, wanted to improve plant reliability and reduce downtime, but lacked cross-functional visibility across operations, maintenance, and reliability teams. This made it difficult to prevent costly unplanned failures and to manage large planned shutdown turnaround projects within budget and on schedule. Rolta International was brought in to help with an operational intelligence/business intelligence solution.

Rolta International implemented a cross-functional BI solution, deployed across eight facilities worldwide, to give Global Refinery visibility into performance across North America, Europe, and South Africa and identify best practices. The results included increasing the “Reliability Clock Reset” interval from an average of 45 days to over 450 days at one facility, reducing turnaround costs, and forecasting turnaround events with 2% accuracy versus final event value.
