BEST, Mumbai’s electricity distribution company serving about 0.9 million customers, was struggling to manage its underground cable network data in hardcopy form. The decentralized records were difficult to access, analyze, secure, and share, while field crews had to rely on deteriorating outage sketches during emergencies. BEST turned to Rolta International for a Utility GIS solution integrated with power analysis and streetlight analysis software.

Rolta International delivered a turnkey computerization of BEST’s 33KV/11KV and LT electrical distribution network, including GIS, network analysis, streetlight analysis software, a customized feature model, network databases, hyperlinked scanned drawings, and integrated reporting and training. The solution enabled enterprise-wide access to network data, improved fault location and field response, eliminated duplicate work, reduced dependence on paper sketches and preservation costs, and improved communication across departments while reducing data redundancy and OPEX.
