BHEL, India’s largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in the energy and infrastructure sector, needed an SPPID utility that could access pipe specifications from its Piping Material Specification (PMS) database. The company wanted to validate SPPID material class data against PMS and populate commodity information in SmartPlant P&ID, and it worked with Rolta International to address this need.

Rolta International customized reports, SPPID symbols, border templates, and title blocks for BHEL, and developed a DLL-based Calculation ID that retrieves PMS records, populates SPPID, and validates piping-spec entries. The solution helped BHEL improve accuracy of piping commodities in SPPID, reduce component selection errors early in design, and shorten the time required to populate piping-spec-related attributes.
