Zend Provides a Foundation For CDS Global’s Continuous Delivery Process

CDS Global, a Hearst subsidiary and one of North America’s largest magazine fulfillment bureaus, needed to implement Continuous Delivery for a sophisticated Magento Enterprise Edition 1.13 subscription/order-management system (about 280MB of application code) so bi-monthly releases could be fast, automated and low-risk. To achieve that goal they engaged Rogue Wave Software, leveraging Zend Server and related automation and monitoring capabilities to move from manual packaging and deployment to an automated pipeline.

Rogue Wave Software helped CDS Global build end-to-end Continuous Delivery by deploying Zend Server clusters (on VMware and prototyped in AWS), integrating with Jenkins CI and tools like Ant, Maven, Mercurial and Selenium, and standardizing automated provisioning, monitoring and rollback. CDS Global now runs thousands of automated unit, component and Selenium tests, uses Zend Server Job Queue for parallel processing, and can push critical bug fixes in under a day; release-related problems have become rare (typically not seen for about eight releases), failures have decreased, SLAs and response times improved, and the site scales to handle hundreds of thousands of customer activities.
