A Rogue Wave Software Case Study
The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Cardiac Rhythm Management Laboratory needed to analyze very large, high-resolution electrical and optical mapping “movies” to understand and identify life‑threatening cardiac arrhythmias such as fibrillation. To handle the complex image and signal processing and advanced visualization requirements, the lab used Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE® development environment.
Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE enabled the team to build the VIDAS (Video Imaging Data Analysis Software) application, combining PV-WAVE’s animation, pattern‑recognition algorithms and flexible programming tools to visualize 3-D heart surfaces and quantitatively detect spiral wave patterns linked to fibrillation. The solution shortened development time, increased researcher productivity, produced a fibrillation model now used widely in cardiology, and supported high‑impact publications in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Nature.
