Spirent Communications, a global test-and-measurement provider with about 500 developers and a flagship product spanning more than 35 million lines of code, needed to ensure highly reliable, secure software and reduce costly field defects. After finding a prior static analysis tool difficult to scale across six geographic development sites, Spirent adopted Klocwork Insight from Rogue Wave Software to augment manual testing and catch bugs earlier in the development cycle.

Rogue Wave Software’s Klocwork Insight was quickly deployed and integrated into developers’ IDEs, enabling desktop static analysis, easy setup, and unlimited lines-of-code licensing that fit Spirent’s distributed environment. As a result, Spirent is identifying hard-to-test issues (memory leaks, error handling and edge cases) before check-in, significantly reducing field errors; fixing a defect with static analysis now costs about $96 versus $962 in the field, and Spirent expects to catch hundreds of bugs per release and expand Klocwork’s use across teams.
