Case Study: Met Office (Hadley Centre) achieves advanced climate predictions with Rogue Wave Software's PV-WAVE

A Rogue Wave Software Case Study

Preview of the Met Office Case Study

PV-WAVE® Used to Predict Global Climate Changes

The Met Office Hadley Centre faced the challenge of analyzing terabytes of climate‑model output, satellite observations and long-term records to predict global climate changes over the next 100 years. To extract meaningful patterns from this enormous, multi‑variable data set — including cloud behavior, ocean‑atmosphere interactions and sea‑level drivers — the Met Office adopted PV‑WAVE from Rogue Wave Software to provide advanced visual data analysis and flexible data manipulation.

Rogue Wave Software’s PV‑WAVE enabled interactive visualization and mapping of model data onto satellite observations, allowing roughly 100 scientists to explore the “big picture” and zoom into key features, accelerate the development of new analysis techniques and handle terabytes of data efficiently. The tool improved productivity (the PV‑WAVE/IMSL family can cut programming time by up to 95%), supported multi‑user workflows on powerful workstations, and directly contributed to the Hadley Centre’s ongoing, updated climate predictions through the end of the 21st century.
