PV-WAVE Used to Develop Radiotherapy Application

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) needed a way to compare proton spot‑scanning radiotherapy with state‑of‑the‑art photon planning methods and to present identical CT and 3D dose data across planning systems in a clear, convincing format. To meet this challenge PSI used Rogue Wave Software’s PV‑WAVE visualization tools to develop an application for displaying and analyzing two‑ and three‑dimensional CT and dose distributions side‑by‑side.

Rogue Wave Software implemented a PV‑WAVE‑based dual‑display and analysis system with interactive orthogonal slicing, dose overlays, isodose contours, profile plots and dose‑volume histogram (DVH) calculations (with performance‑critical routines linked from C). The solution delivered fast array manipulation and processing of large 2D/3D data sets, strong portability across platforms, and two main analysis tools (profiles and DVHs) for direct quantitative comparison — benefits that shortened development time and enabled clear, measurable comparison of proton versus photon plans (Rogue Wave’s PV‑WAVE/IMSL family can cut programming time by as much as 95%).
