PV-WAVE used to Analyze the Interactions and Structure of Subatomic Particles

The Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) in Geel, Belgium, faced the challenge of turning enormous lists of spectral and list‑mode data from its 7‑MeV particle accelerator into usable information without losing researchers in “data deserts.” To meet requirements for real‑time, flexible analysis, visualization and experiment control, the Institute developed the LISA system using PV‑WAVE from Rogue Wave Software.

By combining Rogue Wave Software’s PV‑WAVE core with custom C “processor” modules, LISA delivers interactive graphical analysis, real‑time event‑by‑event processing, automated parameter handling and high‑quality output. The deployed solution runs on a Sun workstation cluster and networked PCs, processes more than 10,000 events per second (about 150 KB/s), and enabled IRMM to efficiently visualize, control and extract meaningful results from large multidimensional datasets.
