A Rogue Wave Software Case Study
Princeton University ecologist Dr. Martin Wikelski faced the challenge of analyzing massive, second-by-second automated radio-telemetry bearing data from a 24/7 animal-tracking study on Barro Colorado Island, where interference and spurious readings made manual review impractical. To process and visually inspect these large datasets he turned to PV-WAVE from Rogue Wave Software.
Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE solution plotted date/time against bearing, enabled array manipulation and interactive, mouse-driven smoothing to identify and remove anomalous readings, and let researchers rapidly verify realistic animal movements. The result: analyses that would have been infeasible manually are completed about 100 times faster, giving the Princeton team accurate, timely insights into animal interactions and spatial ecology and supporting broader initiatives like NEON.
