Oregon State Researchers Use PV-WAVE to Visualize the Ocean

Oregon State University’s College of Oceanography needed a way to sift through and animate large satellite datasets (sea‑surface temperature, wind stress, currents and surface drifter tracks) to study ocean dynamics. To handle the many megabytes of orbiting-sensor data and produce accurate time‑series visualizations, the researchers adopted Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE visualization and data‑analysis package.

Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE provided efficient I/O routines, advanced display capabilities and PCA‑based reconstruction so the team could quickly load, sort, animate and overlay multiple datasets into evenly spaced movies. The solution sped up analysis and production, enabling the accurate animations used in the researchers’ videos, delivering significant time savings and improved ability to explore evolving ocean patterns (Rogue Wave Software’s toolset and IMSL libraries are also cited as reducing development time by up to 95%).
