Case Study: Motorola achieves measurable productivity and quality improvements with Rogue Wave Software's Klocwork

A Rogue Wave Software Case Study

Preview of the Motorola Case Study

Large scale deployment of static analysis leads to measureable productivity and quality improvements

Motorola’s iDEN Mobile Devices group faced growing software complexity, increasing third‑party code, shrinking development cycles and pressure to reduce field defects — a corporate goal to cut external software failures threefold. To catch defects earlier and better measure software quality across global teams, Motorola evaluated static analysis tools and selected Rogue Wave Software’s Klocwork static code‑analysis suite to integrate into its development and QA processes.

Rogue Wave Software deployed Klocwork across more than 1,000 engineers worldwide, integrated it into builds, trained local teams and made the tool mandatory on all products. The result was measurable: 2× improvement in customer‑reported defects at alpha/beta, 3× improvement in Customer Reported Unique Defects (CRUD), a 1.2× reduction in non‑traditional Software CoPQ, a 1.6× improvement in defect leakage at coding and a 2× reduction in defects found at System Test; Motorola awarded the team the CEO Quality Award and later purchased an enterprise license naming Klocwork a preferred supplier.
