Case Study: Finsiel achieves rapid, high-quality limited-area weather forecasting visualization with Rogue Wave Software (PV-WAVE)

Finsiel, part of Gruppo Telecom Italia and a leading Italian IT company in meteorology, faced the challenge of rapidly analyzing and presenting huge limited-area model (LAM) outputs—hundreds of megabytes per run—so meteorologists could quickly interpret forecasts (contour, color, vector maps and cross-sections). To address this need, Finsiel selected PV-WAVE from Rogue Wave Software as the core visualization and GUI technology for its forecasting workflow.

Using Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE, Finsiel built the MODELMap interface to manage LAM execution, monitor logs and post-processing, and produce contour/filled maps, wind vector fields and animated “movie” sequences of forecast evolution. The PV-WAVE–based solution delivered fast, portable UNIX/Windows visualization, easier on-screen/print/file output and compelling animations of territorial data, enabling quicker analysis of forecasts and a toolset suitable for operational meteorological services.
