The European Space Center faced the challenge of monitoring environmental change and validating the European Remote Sensing Satellite (ERS‑1) data for studies of global warming, requiring extensive prelaunch testing, calibration and fast, interactive analysis of large satellite datasets. To meet this need they used Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE for its surface representation, 2D functions and interactive visualization to speed data analysis, software transportability and debugging.

ESTEC embedded PV-WAVE in a multipurpose data‑analysis package to correct satellite positioning, analyze formats, debug ground‑station software and process calibration and “fast delivery” products; PV-WAVE was used to visually analyze compressed SAR imagettes (63 MB compressed into a 0.5 MB “Imagette”), expand dynamics for display and overlay 500 x 500 km wind fields. Rogue Wave Software’s tools delivered faster debugging, significant development time savings (the IMSL libraries can reduce programming time by up to 95%), improved developer productivity and strong vendor support.
