Carnegie Institution - Customer Case Study

The Carnegie Institution needed high-resolution image processing to support secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) microanalysis of presolar grains in meteorites. To address this, the Carnegie Institution selected PV-WAVE (Visual Numerics) provided by Rogue Wave Software to add image- and data-processing, visualization, and interprocess communication capabilities to its SIMS workflows.

Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE was implemented to automatically locate grain coordinates in SIMS images, interactively view ion images, and compute isotopic ratios, enabling automated measurement and analysis of rare presolar grains. The solution improved analysis and visualization, enhanced productivity and cost-effectiveness, and allowed the Carnegie Institution to more efficiently detect and quantify rare grains for astrophysical and cosmochemical research.
