A Rogue Wave Software Case Study
The University of Saskatchewan’s Reproductive Biology Research Unit needed a way to extract quantitative, clinically useful information from ultrasound images to improve studies of infertility, contraception and tumor detection. To meet this challenge they implemented PV-WAVE from Rogue Wave Software to capture streaming ultrasound data and build visual data analysis (VDA) applications that enhance and interrogate images beyond standard black-and-white inspection.
Rogue Wave Software’s PV-WAVE supplied built‑in math and visualization routines (filtering, FFTs, intensity mapping and 3‑D rendering) that let researchers distinguish far finer grayscale detail, shade 2‑D arrays as 3‑D surfaces, and apply hard numeric metrics to tissue patterns. With PV-WAVE the team was able to better classify “good” versus “bad” follicles—increasing conception success rates, estimate egg‑release likelihoods (e.g., identifying ranges with roughly an 80% chance), and advance work on distinguishing benign from malignant masses, producing measurable gains in diagnostic precision and research productivity.
