Antea, a specialist in industrial software for energy and petrochemical sectors, needed better visibility into its Palladio suite web applications (built with Jetty, Spring, Hibernate and Vaadin) to diagnose slow pages, hidden exceptions and session/database issues. To profile their full Java web stack the team evaluated Rogue Wave Software’s XRebel, aiming to find root causes of performance problems that were affecting customer deployments.

Rogue Wave Software’s XRebel provided real-time, in-page profiling that revealed excessively slow Apache Derby queries and session bloat (sessions growing to about 30 MB due to improper Spring bean injection), enabling Antea to plan a move to HSQLDB for development and to fix session leaks. As a result, the team saw faster diagnosis and fixes, a reduced number of performance-related bug reports, noticeable improvement in application responsiveness (even noticed by sales staff), and fewer customer complaints about slow pages.
