A Rogue Wave Software Case Study
The Hessian Competence Center for High Performance Computing (HKHLR) supports researchers across five Hessian universities who rely on large HPC clusters but are not necessarily computer science experts. HKHLR faced fragmented debugging tools across sites, varied user skill levels, and high licensing and maintenance overheads. To address these challenges they evaluated commercial debuggers and selected TotalView for HPC from Rogue Wave Software as a unified solution.
Rogue Wave Software delivered multi‑site TotalView licenses installed on the central HPC clusters and ran a “train‑the‑trainer” program so HKHLR staff could efficiently onboard users. The result was simplified, cross‑cluster debugging with features like reverse debugging and multi‑thread/process control, faster fault isolation and memory optimization, lower installation time and licensing/maintenance costs, and improved training and user support — making TotalView the single officially supported debugger across all participating universities.
