Overture Networks, a leading developer of Carrier Ethernet edge and aggregation equipment, needed to eliminate in-field device failures and improve early defect detection in its software development process. After comparing tools and running trial projects, Overture selected Klocwork Insight from Rogue Wave Software to provide more advanced source code analysis than their prior CPP Check usage and support a zero-tolerance approach to field outages.

Rogue Wave Software’s Klocwork Insight was rolled out across product lines, run at build time and used in targeted “debugging blitzes” and desktop reviews to reduce backlog and prevent new defects. Within months Klocwork Insight helped resolve a major field issue and uncovered three other outage-causing bugs; one codebase went from ~5 defects/1,000 LOC to about half that, and another dropped from 2.39 to 0.14 defects per 1,000 LOC—demonstrating clear, measurable reductions in defects and faster problem resolution.
