Ontario’s Ministry of Health improves long-term care digital access with Rogers in a 4-home pilot

The Ontario Ministry of Health faced the challenge of mitigating the anxiety, depression, and social isolation experienced by residents, families, and staff in long-term care homes due to COVID-19 visiting restrictions. They sought a digital solution to boost morale and provide equitable internet access. The Ministry partnered with vendor Rogers and Samsung to address this.

Rogers implemented a solution by first evaluating and upgrading the WiFi infrastructure in four long-term care facilities to ensure robust connectivity. They then provided Samsung tablets, staged for ease of use, and trained on-site staff as 'Tech Champions'. The results included improved resident engagement and family connections, with residents gaining new skills and independence. The program successfully fostered digital inclusion and was deemed highly beneficial by staff and participants.
