A Rockwell Automation Case Study
Tata Steel needed to replace the obsolete control infrastructure on four lime kilns at its Shapfell plant, but each kiln could only be offline for less than 16 hours before the refractory lining risked damage. The company chose a Rockwell Automation-based solution, delivered by InControl Systems, to improve reliability, reduce maintenance issues, and better manage a high volume of alarms while preparing for more connected plant operations.
Rockwell Automation implemented a modern control system using dual redundant Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PACs, FactoryTalk View SE SCADA, FactoryTalk Historian, FactoryTalk VantagePoint, and more than 5,000 POINT I/O nodes on an EtherNet/IP network. The result was a successful staged modernization of all four kilns, reduced failure risk, better real-time data and alarm management, remote support capability, and stronger integration with Tata Steel’s ERP, quality, lab, and logistics systems.
