A Rockwell Automation Case Study
MRA Electrical & Automation Engineering was challenged by Anglo American to automate the train load out process at the German Creek coal mine to improve reliability, accuracy, and profitability. The manual system was prone to variable performance, over- and under-loading, and environmental interference, so MRA turned to Rockwell Automation technology, including an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix controller and Stratix switch.
Rockwell Automation helped MRA deliver a robust automated TLO system using laser scanners, RFID, predictive filtering, and real-time control through Ethernet/IP. The solution improved loading consistency, reduced commissioning downtime through remote online changes and simulation, and achieved a return on investment in less than four months, with average payloads increasing to 10,000 tonnes per train.
