A Rockwell Automation Case Study
Allen-Bradley, a coal mine in Wyoming, needed to replace an old conveyor system that used excessive electricity, caused noisy hard starts and stops, and created reliability and maintenance issues. The mine wanted better control of its conveyor motors, lower operating costs, and reduced downtime as it expanded its onsite utility operations.
Rockwell Automation implemented Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 7000 variable frequency drives and PowerMonitor power meters across the conveyor network to improve motor control and track energy use in real time. The result was about $3,000 in monthly energy savings, lower maintenance costs, reduced noise by 15 decibels, and less heat and pressure, helping the mine operate more efficiently and sustainably with reduced unplanned downtime.
