Leading U.S. Pork Producer Optimizes Supply Chain

The Maschhoffs, the largest family-owned pork producer in the United States, needed a better way to manage the complex flow of pigs across sow, weaning, and finishing farms. Their existing Excel-based logistics process made it difficult to measure space needs, compare facility costs, and determine the best regional business structure for tighter oversight and lower operating costs. Rockwell Automation helped the company evaluate its supply chain with Arena® Simulation Software.

Rockwell Automation implemented Arena to model pig flow, facility capacity, yardage costs, feed costs, and disease-related movement patterns, while also supporting scenario analysis for regional reorganization. The solution helped The Maschhoffs identify four optimal management regions, improve space utilization, and make faster, more accurate decisions. Rockwell Automation also enabled weekly flow and capacity updates and extended forecasting from one year to five years, giving the company greater flexibility and operational visibility.
