Gram Equipment Creates Agile, Flexible, Multi-Axis Packaging Solution

Gram Equipment, a leading Danish manufacturer of ice cream production equipment, needed to create a highly agile packaging machine that could keep up with growing demands for flexible, high-speed, multi-flavor product handling. To meet this challenge, Gram Equipment turned to Rockwell Automation and its Allen-Bradley automation, motion, and safety portfolio for the company’s new GCS packing solution.

Rockwell Automation implemented a control architecture centered on an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PAC, Kinetix 5700 servo drives, PowerFlex 525 drives, and GuardLogix safety with Safety POINT I/O over EtherNet/IP. The result is a compact, flexible machine that can process up to 660 products per minute with up to four product flavors per layer, supports multi-product/multi-carton formats, fits existing production facilities, and reduces wiring through a single-protocol infrastructure.
