Encore Tissue Plant Drives Upgrade Increases Productivity

Encore Tissue, an Australian tissue manufacturer, needed to upgrade its 2003 tissue machine drives to increase line speed and production while meeting modern safety requirements. The company turned to Rockwell Automation and its Global Solutions team to help modernize the line without disrupting the existing system or available space in the small switchroom.

Rockwell Automation implemented an integrated control and safety solution using GuardLogix with Ethernet communications, PowerFlex 755 AC drives, and Guardmaster door locking devices, along with custom application software and panel redesign. The upgrade increased tissue machine line speed and output, reduced commissioning interruption through factory testing, and helped Encore Tissue meet current safety standards; the site also reported a 65% reduction in water used per tonne of paper manufactured.
