EKB Deploys Modern Microbrewery Control Solution Based On PlantPAx DCS

EKB, a microbrewery in a café in Utrecht, needed to modernize its aging brewing control system on a limited budget while improving automation, consistency, and traceability. Working with Rockwell Automation and using the PlantPAx DCS, EKB set out to create a simple, open, and future-proof solution that bar staff could operate easily.

Rockwell Automation and EKB implemented PlantPAx controller-based sequencing, integrated recipe control, a SQL-based inventory and raw-material tracking database, and Allen-Bradley PowerFlex variable-speed drives. The brewery is now fully automated, with more consistent beer quality, simpler reporting, and better information handling; it also won the 35th PINT Bokbierfestival with its “Speciaal Bock Oudaen Autumn” brew, and the tax office praised the improved control and reporting.
