Delivering Plantwide Control for Arrium’s Iron Knob Mine

Arrium Mining needed to design, install, and commission a modular crushing and screening plant at its Iron Knob mine to process hematite ore quickly, with minimal downtime and limited site works. Rockwell Automation, working through SAGE Automation, provided the control and visualization platform for the project, along with electrical design and installation support.

Rockwell Automation implemented an integrated automation solution using Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and GuardLogix controllers, PowerFlex drives, FactoryTalk View SE, and a DLR network with Stratix switches. The modular system helped cut plant costs by 50%, supported throughput of about 5 million tonnes of ore per year, and delivered high availability with minimal downtime, while also reducing training and maintenance requirements.
