Craft Brewing System Boosts Repeatability

Smart Machine Technologies (SMT), a custom machinery supplier serving microbreweries, wanted to create a fully automated, expandable control solution to replace manual and semi-automated brewing systems. Working with Rockwell Automation, SMT aimed to improve repeatability, support unique brewery layouts, and add modern graphics, touchscreen, and mobile capabilities.

Rockwell Automation helped SMT build the system on Allen-Bradley CompactLogix controllers, PowerFlex drives, PanelView Plus 7 terminals, Stratix networking, and FactoryTalk ViewPoint for secure mobile access. The result was a flexible automation platform that improved process efficiency and repeatability, while enabling remote monitoring and control; the new system also helped Schulz Brau Brewing save recipes and run brews consistently across locations.
