Condition Based Maintenance Solution Reduces Downtime

Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) operates the Port of Newcastle’s coal loading terminal, which runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week with minimal onsite personnel. To protect long-term loading capacity and productivity, NCIG needed a reliable way to predict equipment failures and reduce unplanned downtime at its high-throughput terminal.

Rockwell Automation implemented an integrated condition monitoring solution using its Integrated Architecture platform, XM® series modules, Allen-Bradley® sensors, and Emonitor® software. The system provides real-time vibration and temperature monitoring, automated alerts, and historical analysis, helping NCIG detect about 10 impending failures per year and avoid significant downtime; at an average repair time of 10 hours per incident, the savings are substantial, and NCIG is now expanding the Rockwell Automation solution across more of the plant.
