Case Study: Columbia Pipeline Group achieves 99.5% reliability with Rockwell Automation

A Rockwell Automation Case Study

Preview of the Columbia Pipeline Group Case Study

Columbia Pipeline Group Reaches 99.5 Percent Reliability

Columbia Pipeline Group needed to modernize its operational environment to improve reliability, gain better insight into production data, and simplify maintenance across nearly 15,000 miles of natural gas pipelines. Rockwell Automation helped the company address these challenges with a virtualized PlantPAx distributed control system, along with high-availability virtualized servers from Stratus Technologies, to replace disparate legacy control systems and support secure, scalable operations.

With Rockwell Automation, Columbia Pipeline Group standardized control across its pipeline network, improved information sharing, and enabled remote access and better maintenance management. The company reached 99.5 percent reliability at 100 percent capacity and saved approximately $2.3 million in maintenance costs in 2014, while also reducing downtime and expanding the system to 40 compressor stations.
