A Rockwell Automation Case Study
The Whitmore Manufacturing Company, a producer of industrial lubricants and related products, needed to replace a labor-intensive, manual batch mixing process that was causing contamination risks, product variation, and quality issues. To support its facility expansion, Whitmore turned to Rockwell Automation and its FactoryTalk and Allen-Bradley technologies to create a more automated, information-driven charging and mixing operation.
Rockwell Automation, working with partner Innovative Controls Inc., implemented an integrated control and information system with ControlLogix PLCs, FactoryTalk View SE, FactoryTalk Historian, FactoryTalk Batch, and related software. The result was a fully automated system across 20+ mixers that increased production capacity by 28%, added 150 batches per year, and cut cycle time by an average of nine hours, while significantly reducing human error and product variation.
