A Rockwell Automation Case Study
Anglo American, a global mining company, faced major challenges at its Minas-Rio system, including standardizing operations across multiple areas, integrating facilities separated by long distances, and replacing an outdated legacy DCS. Rockwell Automation was brought in to help modernize the control environment with its PlantPAx distributed control system.
Rockwell Automation implemented a modular, standardized solution split into four areas with dedicated servers, controllers, and operating rooms, plus web-enabled remote monitoring and integration with PIMS and MES. The result was shorter commissioning times, simpler operations, easier maintenance, and better decision-making; Anglo American also achieved its first iron ore shipment ahead of schedule and below budget, with Rockwell Automation contributing to that success.
