Anchor Glass Drinks in Energy Savings With Modern DCS

Anchor Glass, a glass container manufacturer, was struggling with an aging furnace at its Shakopee, Minnesota plant that caused energy inefficiencies, poor temperature control, and limited access to production data. The company also needed a more user-friendly system to manage frequent changeovers and improve visibility into furnace performance. Rockwell Automation, working through Stone Technologies, provided a PlantPAx® modern DCS solution to address these challenges.

Rockwell Automation’s PlantPAx system gave Anchor Glass better control over temperature variables, more than 1,000 data tags, improved alarm management, and historical trending through an intuitive HMI. The result was stronger operator flexibility, easier handling of 18 monthly changeovers, and estimated savings of over $1 million, including about $766,500 in annual gas savings and $337,260 in annual electrical savings.
