How Rockset Made Me a Day Three Hero at Sounding Board

Sounding Board, a coaching management platform, needed a fast way to report on deeply nested JSON data in MongoDB and expose it through a secure RESTful endpoint for its custom application. Principal data architect Jon Farr needed to normalize and join complex arrays and subdocuments quickly, without first building a traditional ETL pipeline or moving data into a warehouse.

Using Rockset, along with its MongoDB data connector, Converged Index, UNNEST() SQL function, Query Lambdas, and Retool, Sounding Board ingested the data directly, flattened it with SQL, and built a real-time reporting app in just three days. Rockset cut one complex multi-join query’s response time from 3500 ms to 159 ms, and the company gained a scalable, low-maintenance foundation for real-time analytics and customer-facing reporting.
